Marion's Lyanna Cross finishes second at regional spelling bee

March 24, 2026
Marion fifth-grader Lyanna Cross finished in second place at the regional spelling bee on March 21.
Congratulations to Lyanna Cross, who finished in second place overall at the Regional Spelling Bee on March 21.

As winner of the Marion Spelling Bee earlier this year, Lyanna qualified for the Regional Bee, which was contested at Palmyra-Macedon’s Performing Arts Center. Lyanna was one of 34 spellers from 18 area schools and making her feat even more impressive is that she finished second as a fifth-grader. The winner of the Regional Bee is Logan Yuan, an eighth-grader from Geneva who qualified for the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. in May.

Congratulations to Lyanna on a spelling job well done!
