PROPOSITION

Be it resolved that the Board of Education of the Marion Central School District is hereby authorized to undertake certain capital improvements consisting of reconstruction of existing school buildings and facilities, various site improvements and the acquisition of certain original furnishings, equipment, and apparatus and other incidental improvements required in connection therewith for such construction and school use, all at an estimated maximum aggregate cost of $24,125,000; and to appropriate and expend from the existing capital reserve fund $3,865,152 for such costs, and that the balance of the costs, or so much thereof as may be necessary, shall be raised by the levy of a tax to be collected in annual installments, with such tax to be offset by state aid available therefor; and, in anticipation of such tax, debt obligations of the school district as may be necessary not to exceed $20,259,848 shall be issued.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Here are responses to some of the most commonly asked questions on the Marion Central School District’s 2025 Capital Improvement Project proposal:

Will this project affect my school tax?

No, there is no additional tax impact. The entire cost is covered by building aid and the Capital reserve.

Why is this project needed?

There are several items at both the Elementary and Junior-Senior High schools that need to be addressed before they become hazards to staff and students. Many of these items were identified in our 2023 Building Condition Survey completed by the district architects. The work includes renovations to our music and Ag/Tech wing at the Junior-Senior High School to maximize the use of existing space and make it more functional for our programs. Additional work includes restrooms, a roof and making our facilities compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

What is the timeline for the project?

If approved, construction will start June 2027 and be completed sometime in 2029.

How will this be financed?

Approximately 85-percent of the capital project funding is paid for by building aid from New York State with the remainder coming from the district’s accumulated capital reserve fund. There is 0 percent additional tax impact to the community.
