History can be an exciting part of life to study and it’s even more exciting when it’s the history of your own hometown!
That was the focus of a Marion Elementary School Minicamp this past fall, led by Mrs. Kuhn.
“It was a wonderful experience from start to finish!” said Mrs. Kuhn.
Students in the History of Marion Minicamp explored historic trails of Marion, created whirlygigs, churned butter and made tin-punch ornaments. The final session was at the cemetery, where students did grave-rubbings and examined some of the older headstones.
“It was exciting to see the campers make connections and several recognized names from the museum or from our hike,” said Mrs. Kuhn. “Cece was especially thrilled when she found the headstone of James Goossens and remembered that he once owned Goossen’s Store. It was a great week of learning, exploring and bringing Marion history to life!”
Thank you to Mrs. Kuhn and the community for helping our young students learn more about the area they call home!
