District Announces Valedictorian, Salutatorian For Class Of 2023

Lucas Monroe, son of Jason and Morgan Monroe, has been named the Valedictorian of the Marion Junior-Senior High School Class of 2023.
Lucas has earned this distinction by accumulating an overall academic average of 98.6. In addition to completing his four years of high school with the top average in a class of 43 students, Lucas is an active school citizen. He is a selected member of the National Honor Society and participates in Select Choir and Show Choir.
Lucas has been involved in athletics since ninth grade, participating in swimming and golf. Lucas is also a Boy Scout. Lucas has been recognized academically by being awarded the University of Rochester Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award, the Rochester Institute of Technology Innovation and Creativity Award, the Hobart and William Smith College Finger Lakes Scholarship and the Clarkson University Leadership Award.
Lucas will attend Clarkson University in the fall to major in Aerospace Engineering.
Meredith DeYoung, daughter of Mark and Laura DeYoung, has been named the Salutatorian of the Class of 2023.
Meredith has earned this distinction by accumulating an overall academic average of 98.2. Meredith is a selected member of the National Honor Society and Treasurer of the Class of 2023.  She participates in Marching Band, Jazz Band, Select Choir, Show Choir and the annual Musical.
Meredith has been actively involved in athletics since ninth grade, participating in volleyball, indoor track and field and outdoor track and field. She also volunteers with the Marion Food Pantry.
Meredith has been recognized academically by being awarded the University of Rochester Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology, the Elmira College Key Award, the Hobart and William Smith College Finger Lakes Award, the Saint Michael’s College Book Award, the Clarkson University Achievement Award and the St. Lawrence University Book Award.
Meredith will attend University of Nevada-Las Vegas to major in Hospitality Management.
Congratulations to Lucas and Meredith for a job well done. They are a testament to dedication and hard work.
The Marion Central School District’s graduation ceremony is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 23.
