Three Track and Field Athletes Win Section V Championships

Three Marion track and field athletes won individual championships at the Section V Class B4 Boys Championship Meet at Dundee on May 26.
Junior Oren Welch cleared 13 feet to win the pole vault while also capturing the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.34. Welch also finished fourth in the 110 hurdles.
Freshman Michael Ciripompa won the 3,000 steeplechase in 11:01.12 and finished fourth in the 3,200 run (10:51.78).
Freshman Aaron Meyer won the 3,200 run in 10:40.91 and finished fifth in the steeplechase (11:40.32).
Mitchell Hendricks and Joseph Casper both cleared 9-6 to tie for fifth place in pole vault.
Darius Brewington finished sixth in the shot put (37-8).
The 4-by-800 relay composed of Aidan Miller, Landon Wertz, Joseph Casper and Ryan Sicienski finished fifth in 9:41.
Marion finished fifth in the team competition.
Oren Welch, Ethan Welch and Michael Ciripompa will be representing Marion at State Qualifiers on Friday at Batavia.
The girls 4-by-100 relay composed of Hayley Wurster, Sienna Mattison, Meredith DeYoung and Hannah Roegiers finished third (55.17 seconds).
Roegiers also finished fifth in the 400 meters (1:04.9) and Wurster took fifth in the triple jump (31-1 ¼).
DeYoung placed sixth in the 100 hurdles (18.27).
The Marion girls team finished 14th overall.
