Marion Elementary Receives Grant For Mini-Camps
The Marion Central School District recently received a $19,971 grant from the ESL Federal Credit Union to support after-school mini-camps at Marion Elementary School.
The grant will provide support for 36 more mini-camps which translates to about 450 opportunities for MES students.
“We are very grateful to ESL for their generous support of our after school mini-camps,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ellen Lloyd, who was principal at MES when the mini-camp programs launched last spring. “This grant will give us the opportunity to provide a lot of unique offerings and give our students the ability to explore new topics and try new activities.”
The after school mini-camps started last spring in hopes of having 20 percent of MES students participate in after-school activities led by interested staff members. Fifty-one percent of MES students took part in activities last spring and that number has continued to grow.
Mini-camp program topics have included: Belculfine Bakes, Kindness Matters, Lego Camp, It’s All Fun and Games Active Mini Camp, Reader’s Theater, Mileage Club, Snow Shoeing, All Sorts of Sports, Battle of the Books, Dog Lovers, Introduction to Coding with Scratch, Board Games, Play-Doh Picnic and Exploring Science Phenomena.
