Larisa Kotok of the combined Marion\Gananda Girls Tennis Team is returning to the state tournament.

Kotok, who is a senior at Gananda High School, finished second at the Section V Singles State Qualifier at Mendon Racquet and Pool Club on Thursday.

Kotok dropped an exciting three-set match to Brighton sophomore Leyla Tozin in the final, 4-6, 6-2, 6-4. Kotok defeated Tozin in last year’s final match at state qualifiers and went on to finish second overall at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association championships.

Both Tozin and Kotok will represent Section V at the NYSPHSAA championships from Oct. 27-29 at Sportime in Schenectady.

Kotok has won back-to-back Section V Class B2 championships and was named the 2021 All-Greater Rochester Player of the Year.

The Marion/Gananda team is coached by Terry Krocke.
