Five Marion High School athletes earned first-place medals at the Section V Class B5 Championships on May 27 at South Seneca High School.
Junior Hayley Wurster won individual championships in the girls long jump (15-feet, 10-inches) and triple jump (32-5) and ran on the winning 4-by-100 meter relay. Junior Meredith DeYoung won two medals by placing first in the shot put and participating in the 4-by-100 relay.
Sophomore Hannah Roegiers and senior Delaney Szostak also ran on the winning relay.
Sophomore Ethan Welch finished first in the boys pole vault (11-6) as Marion captured three of the top five places.
The girls finished second in the team standings and the boys team finished third.
Wurster, DeYoung, Roegiers, Szostak, Ethan Welch and sophomore Oren Welch all earned spots in Friday’s state qualifier at Eastridge High School. Sophomore Leah Boerman qualified as an alternate.
