Athletes Receive All-Greater Rochester Accolades

Several athletes who represent the Marion Central School District were recognized by the Democrat and Chronicle for their achievements during the fall sports season.

Abigail Marotta, a sophomore at Marion, was named first-team All-Greater Rochester in girls soccer and Larisa Kotok, a junior from Gananda who plays on the combined Marion/Gananda girls tennis team, was named AGR Player of the Year.

Abigail, a fourth-year varsity player, scored 43 goals and added 14 assists this year to finish with 100 points. Abigail ranked second in Section V in both goals and points and was named Wayne County Player of the Year and first-team All-State in Class D.  A first-team Wayne County league all-star, she helped the Black Knights to a 14-4-1 record, the Wayne County League title and a runner-up finish in the Section V Class D1 Tournament.

Abigail has been a member of two Section V championship teams (2018 and ’19) for Marion and has 86  goals, 79 assists and 251 points in her high school career.

Larisa, who was playing her first season of varsity tennis, finished with a 32-1 record and advanced all the way to the championship match at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Championships in Schenectady.

She won the Wayne County, Section V Class B2 and Section V State Qualifier tournaments and also received the Section V Sportsmanship Award at the state tournament and was named  the Wayne County MVP and a first-team league all-star.

Marion also had several honorable mention selections, including:

Boys soccer: Aidan Miller and Michael Phillips;

Girls soccer: Alyse Buirch, Delaney Szostak and Ava Schubert;

Girls tennis: Tanya Hernandez and Janet Jaramillo;

Girls volleyball: Meredith DeYoung.
