Three Girls Soccer Players Receive All-State Honors
Three members of the Marion High School girls soccer team have received all-state recognition from the New York State Sportswriters and Coaches Organization for Girls Sports.
Sophomore Abigail Marotta was named first-team all-state in Class D and seniors Alyse Buirch and Delaney Szostak each received fourth-team honors.Abigail, a forward, scored 43 goals and recorded 14 assists and was named Wayne County Player of the Year. She has been a member of the varsity team since seventh grade and has played on two Section V championship teams.
Alyse, a goalkeeper who will continue her soccer career at Division II Tiffin University, was named first-team All-Wayne County and was selected to the Section V Class D1 All-Tournament Team. A three-year varsity player, she made 93 saves and had a 0.698 goals-against average this season.
Delaney, a midfielder and defender, scored eight goals and registered nine assists this season. A four-year varsity player and two-time Section V champion, he was named first-team All-Wayne County and selected to the Section V Class D1 All-Tournament Team.
Marion went 14-4-1 this season and advanced to the Section V Class D1 championship game. The Black Knights also won the Wayne County League championship with an 11-1 record.Congratulations Abigail, Alyse and Delaney!
