Boys Indoor Track and Field Team Wins Section V Championship
The Marion Boys Indoor Track and Field Team captured the Section V Class A3 championship on Friday night.
The Black Knights totaled 106 points, 49 more than the second-place team, en route to their second consecutive team title.
Senior Mack Brewington led the way for Marion, scoring 30 points with victories in the 3200-meter (10:47.37), 1000-meter (2:53.09) and 1,600-meter (4:58.55) runs.
Jon Lonneville also had an outstanding meet, claiming the pole vault (9-feet, 6-inches) and high jump (5-10) titles and placing third in the 300 (39.71).
Ben DeYoung won the 55-meter hurdles (8.55 seconds) and placed third in the high jump (5-4).
Other individual place winners were:
Liam Dela Osa Cruz: Second in the 1,600 and third in the 3,200;
Jason Lonneville: Sixth in the 3,200;
Tyler Couperus: Fifth in the 300;
3,200-meter relay: Liam Dela Osa Cruz, Aidan Miller, Matt Hosbach, and Jason Lonneville placed second;
1,600-meter relay: Jason Lonneville, Matt Hosbach, Logan Karpp, Tyler Couperus placed second;
800-meter relay: Logan Karpp, Matt Hosbach, Ben DeYoung, Tyler Couperus finished sixth.
The Girls Indoor Track and Field Team finished 11th at the Section V Class A3 meet.
Individual Place winners were.
Delaney Szostak: Sixth in the 600;
Meredith DeYoung: Fourth in the 55 hurdles;
Haley Wurster: Fourth in the high jump;
Whitney Welch: Sixth in the shot put;
800-meter relay: Haley Wurster, Hannah Roegiers, Meredith DeYoung and Delaney Szostak finished second.
