Holiday Reading Program Brightens Nights, Spirits

On the first day of holiday reading, Mrs. Brown read to me ... "Santa's Story" by Will Hillenbrand.
Thus began a new tradition at Marion Elementary School.
The idea of a Holiday Reading Program came from MES teacher Angie Parker and has been a hit with the staff, students and their families.
The 12 Days of Reading began on Dec. 7 and each weeknight at 7 p.m. a guest reader shares a holiday  bedtime story over Zoom. Links to the Zoom can be found in a student's  SeeSaw or Google Classroom account.
Another element of the fun is the announcement of the guest reader and story by MES Principal Dr. Ellen Lloyd on social media each day. Mrs. Brown, a library assistat at MES, organized the effort.
In addition to Mrs. Brown, readers included Mr. Campbell, Mrs. Robinson, Mrs. Belculfine, Mrs. Schoonerman, Mrs. Vaillancourt and others.
Stories included "How Santa Got His Job," "Snowmen at Night," "Jingle Bells" and "How to Catch a Reindeer."
The program was scheduled to end on Dec. 22, but due to popular demand and an abundance of volunteers, it will continue into January.
